Panama has become one of the top destinations in Latin-America to host major international events. Just now, Panama is welcoming thousands of foreign visitors from around the world to attend the World Baseball Classic, as well as the UN Preparatory Meeting for the Climate Summit COP 17. The World Baseball Classic 2011, a major international baseball event organized by the International Baseball Federation (IBAF), is being held from the 1st to the 15th of October, welcoming 16 countries, as well as thousands of journalists and fans from all over. Almost simultaneously, more than 5,000 delegates from the UN, hundreds of journalists and international observers will be gathering in Panama for their preparatory meeting on the upcoming Climate Summit COP 17.

It's a fact; today more and more meetings and conventions managers are choosing Panama as the destination for their events. Some of the major events scheduled for February 2012 are: the renowned "Latin American Ironman Championship," the most important of the region which expects 4,500 athletes to attend; the Herbalife Extravaganza Convention, with nearly 9,000 attendees from the distribution and sales departments; and the Brahman Cattle World Congress, with more than 3,000 delegates.

The Tourism Authority of Panama has been developing important initiatives and incentive policies to attract the meeting & conventions segment, among them is the Atlapa Convention Center offer of a complementary event for a group of more than 500 rooms with a minimum stay of 3 nights, as well as the free health insurance for tourists in case of an emergency. The service is offered to all tourists entering Panama by the Tocumen International Airport and covers visitors for the first 30 days of their stay.

Atlapa Convention Center is an eight hectare complex with a capacity for up to 10,500 people, 24 meeting rooms with a 2,806-seat beautiful theater / auditorium, equipped with comfortable armchairs, and offering a variety of facilities and services. Moreover, Panama offers 4- and 5-star hotels with around 240,000 sq. ft. of space that will double simultaneously the capacity of Atlapa. Panama's strategic geographical location, warm climate throughout the year, beaches, hotel infrastructure and important air connectivity, has been captivating the attention of the meetings & conventions sector.
