In 1929, John and Helen Murphey created Hacienda Del Sol in Tucson, Arizona, a desert retreat and "home away from home" ranch school for girls. The prestigious school’s roster boasted some of the country’s most elite families: Vanderbilt, Pillsbury, and Westinghouse, to name a few. In 1948, Hacienda Del Sol was converted into a guest ranch that immediately attracted the Silver Screen’s most notable stars, among them John Wayne and Clark Gable. Legend has it that Hacienda’s Casita Grande was the favorite hideaway of Spencer Tracy and Katharine Hepburn. Today, the story continues, with simple pleasures, subtle beauty, and charming hospitality at this classic Arizona resort – lovingly renovated to preserve its historic roots – while providing guests with every amenity.

The Waldorf - Astoria Hotel has been known as the epicenter of New York’s cultural, social, and political life since it opened its famed doors in 1931. Not only was the hotel host to many legends, including Marilyn Monroe, Cole Porter, and Frank Sinatra, it has also been the setting of numerous romances. The Waldorf Astoria has been home to many of Hollywood’s golden couples; Jack and Jackie Kennedy spent their wedding night in a Waldorf Towers suite. Grace Kelly and Prince Rainier III of Monaco celebrated their engagement at the hotel. The Duke and Duchess of Windsor maintained their New York residence in The Towers, moving in when the Duke relinquished his throne for the woman he loved. That suite remains one of the hotel’s most coveted spaces, rightly named The Royal Suite, which was refurbished to emulate the Windsor’s former residence.

Long before director Charles Reisner chose Dartmouth College Winter Carnival as the setting for his tangled romance, the 1939 film "Winter Carnival," Hanover and The Hanover Inn at Dartmouth College have seen many hearts won and lost. As The Hanover Inn welcomes back alumni from the era of the film and at the same time helps recent grads plan their weddings at the Inn, the stories of Dartmouth romance walk hand in hand with the hotel’s history. The wife of a Class of ’42 grad remembered filling a letter to Hanover with the paper "kisses" streamers from a bag of chocolates. Another alum recalled sitting in a rocker on the front porch of the Inn the first time he glimpsed the woman who would be his wife as she crossed Wheelock Street.

The staff at the Green Park Inn still isn’t quite sure who was the dashing young gentleman that slipped into her room during the evening, and then slipped out shortly before dawn. Guests at the Inn have conjured up some guesses but the mystery still remains.
