The Peabody Memphis Upgrades A/V Offerings For Meetings And Events

The Peabody Memphis
, a 464-room historic hotel located in downtown Memphis, has partnered with its in-house event technology provider, Swank Audio Visuals to perform a $300,000 A/V system upgrade. The “South’s Grand Hotel” now offers the most technically-advanced production infrastructure in the Mid-South and the only fully high-definition system at a hotel within the state of Tennessee.

The upgrades took place in the hotel’s 16,264-sq. ft. Peabody Grand Ballroom, which can be divided into 6 break-out rooms ranging from 945 to 3,144 sq. ft. In total, The Peabody Memphis has more than 80,000 sq. ft. of meeting and event space, including 16 historic spaces; the Peabody Grand Ballroom; an 11,000-sq. ft. exhibit hall; the Plantation Roof and adjoining art deco Skyway atop the hotel; and the Peabody Executive Conference Center, a collection of 12 private meeting rooms with dedicated, lounge area, concierge and catering services.

Highlights of A/V upgrade include:

  • Full 1080P High Definition Projection System – the only fully HD systems in a hotel in Tennessee.
  • 3 permanently-installed, wide-format drop-down screens, each with Sanyo DLP 8000 Lumen, High Definition Projector.
  • New speakers, amplifiers, and audio processing equipment, including digital feedback eliminators.
  • Touch-pad control panel technology system for each section of the ballroom or entire room at once – allows client settings to be “locked” for duration of program.
  • Installation of cutting edge video matrixing technology with video input and output throughout the ballroom – allows projection systems to carry any combination of images at the same time, or each screen to carry a different image.
  • Audio snakes in ballroom floor pockets in two positions that can receive any combination of 64 channels.

“These technology upgrades will provide an overall better quality video and sound production for a wide range of business, social and entertainment events held in the Peabody Grand Ballroom, offering a cleaner, crisper, more elegant look with greater ease of use and greater capabilities,” said Craig Smith, director of sales and marketing, The Peabody Memphis.

Legendary for its charm, elegance, and gracious Southern hospitality, The Peabody Memphis has been made world-famous for its five resident Mallard ducks, who march daily through the Grand Lobby at 11 a.m. and 5 p.m. The luxurious downtown hotel opened in 1869 and is on the National Register of Historic Places. Having recently completed a major renovation and restoration of the entire property, The Peabody Memphis continues to carry the distinction of the “South’s Grand Hotel.”
