WHEN ONE IS TARGETED, ALL MUST STAND: BBA IN SOLIDARITY
Sarah R. Harris

The Black Business Association (BBA) stands in resolute opposition to the recent ICE raids and the federal government's decision to deploy the National Guard and military forces in Los Angeles without the consent of our city and state leadership. These actions-taken against the express objections of Governor Gavin Newsom and Mayor Karen Bass-reflect an alarming abuse of executive power and a dangerous disregard for the civil liberties of our communities.

For over five decades, the BBA has worked to advance equity, economic opportunity, and justice for Black businesses and underserved populations. Today, we reaffirm that commitment and extend our full solidarity to our immigrant neighbors, families, and small business owners whose lives, livelihoods, and dignity are under threat.

The militarized response to peaceful protestors and working families sends a chilling message-one rooted in fear, intimidation, and division. It undermines trust, destabilizes communities, and distracts from the real work of building a safer, more inclusive Los Angeles. As we've seen throughout history, when any community is targeted, all communities are at risk.

We call for:

·      The immediate cessation of ICE raids targeting peaceful residents.

·      The withdrawal of unauthorized federal forces from our streets.

·      Respect for due process and constitutional rights.

·      Support for those impacted by detentions, disruptions, or displacement-including immigrant-owned businesses, workers, and families.

Now is the time for unity, not escalation. The BBA remains committed to advocating for fair and humane policies, defending the rights of all Angelenos, and working alongside partners and elected leaders to ensure our city is a place of opportunity, dignity, and respect for all people-regardless of race, status, or background.

In strength, solidarity, and service,
