New Executive Director Named For The Georgia International Convention Center

Interim Executive Director, Mercedes Miller, Tapped for the Position

The City of College Park has named Mercedes Miller to the position of executive director for the city's Georgia International Convention Center (GICC).

Miller, who has been serving as the Interim Executive Director at the GICC, will be responsible for the leadership, operation and management of the state's second largest convention center.

"The time is right to place Ms. Miller into a permanent role as Executive Director at the GICC, due to her expertise and successful track record in the event planning industry," said College Park's Mayor Jack P. Longino. "I believe her dedication, knowledge of the region and her management expertise will serve the GICC immensely as it establishes College Park as a global player in tourism and hospitality."

Since joining the GICC in 1999, Miller has served in several positions, including director of Sales, assistant director and most recently, as interim executive director. Prior to joining the GICC, she held several other positions within the hospitality industry, including work with the Atlanta Convention & Visitors Bureau, the Atlanta Airport Renaissance hotel and the Waverly hotel.

"The appointment to the position of executive director of the GICC is a well-deserved opportunity for Ms. Miller, who has served the organization extremely well in terms of advancing its goals and objectives, respectively. I am very much looking forward to working closely with her to effectively utilize, market and promote the GICC, Georgia's premiere events and hospitality venue," notes College Park city manager, Terrence Moore.

Miller serves on the Board of Directors for the College Park Destination Marketing Organization, the Atlanta Airport Chamber of Commerce and the Fulton County Board of Ethics. She is also a member of the Atlanta Convention & Visitors Bureau, the International Association of Venue Managers (I.A.V.M.), and the Professional Conference Management Association (P.C.M.A.).
