The Cancun Convention & Visitors Bureau Welcomes Wedding Experts During "Love Mexico"

The Cancun Convention and Visitors Bureau welcomed the world's best destination wedding specialists at the third annual Love Mexico convention, in December at the El Dorado Royale Hotel. Romance travel is a 28 billion dollar annual market; considering that 10 billion dollars are spent on honeymooning worldwide alone. A year-round market, destination weddings have an average cost of $ 25,806; with an average of about 63 guests in attendance.

Moreover, 8 billion dollars are spent annually by guests attending destination weddings. This growing travel segment, having increased by 400% in the past 10 years, has seen a boom in destination weddings. The per capita expenditure of the guests at a destination wedding is $1,620; staying an average of about 2.5 nights at the destination. It is an expense that is comparable to that generated by business tourism.

Even more impressive, over 60% of Mexico's destination weddings take place in Quintana Roo; the state famous for its beautiful turquoise waters, white sand beaches, romantic hideaways, and, of course, Cancun.

"We have seen significant growth in Cancun as a destination wedding hotspot for Canadian brides and grooms,” says Tara Soloway, co-founder of LUXE Destination Weddings. "It's a perfect location for wedding groups for a number of reasons – ease of travel, fantastic hotel selection, desirable amenities and gorgeous beaches – all of which, position Cancun as one of the leading destinations for luxury weddings in Mexico and the Caribbean.”

Love Mexico is the premier business platform for Mexico and Latin America to promote themselves in the romance tourism market and has become a key event for destination wedding planners from throughout the Americans; especially North America, with 130 of the top wedding planners from the United States and Canada attending last year.

For the first time at Love Mexico, the leaders from the top-three North American wedding associations, AFWPI, ABC, and WPIC, attended the event, along with top wedding destination wedding specialists from Destination Weddings magazine, Honeymoons magazine, Travel Impressions and Destinationweddings.com. Their knowledge and expertise brought a new perspective and point of view for future couples that wish to celebrate their wedding in Cancun. Specialists from The Knot, Destination Weddings & Honeymoons Magazine, Honeymoons.com, Bridal Guide, and Brides Gateway were also be in attendance, relaying the newest trends and possibilities they learn about at Love Mexico to brides throughout North America. Even the stars and planners from the shows Married Away and Whose Wedding is it Anyway? were also in the beautiful Mexican Caribbean for this grand event.
