Visit Pensacola and the African-American Heritage Society released its guide to African-American heritage in the Pensacola Bay Area in mid February, just in time for Black History Month.


The guide spotlights nearly two dozen stops along the African-American Heritage Trail, from Perdido Key to Century and from Pensacola Beach to Historic Downtown Pensacola featuring historic sites, churches, art galleries, cultural centers, restaurants and more. Also included in the guide are tributes to notable African-Americans in the community, an explanation of the role African-Americans played in the city’s founding and other facts about the area’s 450-year history.

Visit Pensacola received a $1,250 marketing grant from VISIT FLORIDA for the project. Visit Pensacola and the African-American Heritage Society produced 10,000 brochures to help raise awareness among visitors of the area’s rich African-American culture. “We are proud to work with Visit Pensacola to promote cultural heritage travel,” said Dr. Gael Frazer of the African-American Heritage Society. “Pensacola is the oldest community in the United States, and our African-American Heritage Trail provides a rich cultural experience for locals and tourists alike.”
