MCCSN: Your Guide To The Heart & Soul of San Diego

There is no greater way to experience the true Heart & Soul of San Diego, than to put yourself in the hands of San Diego’s own Multi-Cultural Convention Services Network (MCCSN). Founder, president and a native San Diegan, Clara Carter, along with her knowledgeable staff are dedicated to the promotion of San Diego’s convention and tourism products. MCCSN is credited for boosting San Diego’s meeting attendance and brining in more than a million dollars annually as they passionately work to assist multicultural meeting planners and executive decision makers representing national associations and corporations in discovering the wide variety of meeting spaces, accommodations, great value, year-round sunshine, as well as 70 miles of beautiful beaches and how they come together so wonderfully – ensuring a well-attended, successful and engagingly diverse meeting experience.

While MCCSN is also known for assisting leisure travelers planning vacations, family reunions and special events, to the full flavor of San Diego’s diverse communities, venues and attractions, they are becoming nationally known for their commitment to perpetuate the multicultural industry locally and nationwide by offering an annual Multicultural Familiarization Tour. Each September, corporations representing various ethnicities are getting on board to be included in this yearly event. The MCCSN FAM leaves planners with a clear understanding why the city has great national attendee drawing power, with an estimated 2 million business men and women making it their meeting destination each year. San Diego’s allure is showcased to pre-qualified national ethnic meeting planners, providing them with a broad view of the city’s culturally diverse communities, shops, fine dining, local attractions, festivals, cultural arts & entertainment, as well as extraordinary meetings capabilities.

The 2010 MCCSN FAM Tour was a triumphant success, exhibiting Executive Carter’s heartfelt mission of having the “triple E effect” noted throughout the 3-day venture - Experiences that Exceed their Expectations. The Welcome Reception and Dinner were held at the Host Hotel, The Hilton San Diego Mission Valley and was eloquently MC’d byKSWB/Fox 5 News Reporter Perette Godwin. After a night of tending to the needs of the weary traveling meeting planners with food, drink, entertainment, mini-massages and a tantalizing glimpse of what the next few days had in store, Executive Carter dismissed the reception, leaving all involved anxious for the morning and their quest to discover San Diego.

On the mornings that followed, planners were greeted by the attentive staff of the Marriot Marina, Westgate Hotel and enjoyed a fun, relaxing Brunch Cruise aboard the Hornblower Cruise ship, Inspiration. These educational/breakfast sessions included presentations by industry executives including Joe Terzi, President and CEO of the San Diego CVB, Stephen Cushman, commissioner of the San Diego Port District, Andy Mikschl, senior VP of sales for the San Diego Convention Center Corp., and MCCSN’s own Clara Carter, all who shared some unique truths about meeting in San Diego, including the San Diego International Airport being only 10 minutes from downtown, casinos, bed & breakfasts and vacation rentals offering 57,000 hotel rooms, Baja California just 20 minutes from downtown, as well as how obtaining the assistance of San Diego’s MCCSN can guarantee a better price quote from hotels and suppliers and assist in planning by directing you to unique hidden cultural venues, restaurants and entertainment that are a tailored fit for the meeting your trying to create.

Venues and attractions on the itinerary included: The USS Midway, Old Town’s Fiesta de Reyesrestaurant, Se Hotel, Hilton Bayfront, San Diego Repertory Theatre and an afternoon at Balboa Park, the nation's largest cultural urban park with over 15 museums, botanical gardens and special exhibits; a special session of entertainment by AKAYAA was demonstrated by African performers at Balboa Park’s Mingei International Museum. Last year, the annual FAM tour’s tradeshow, which provides local businesses the chance to showcase their products and services, was hosted by the Porto Vista Hotel; a hotel featuring the essence of Europe, located in the center of San Diego's Little Italy. Radio personality Tayari from Smooth Jazz 98.1 entertained during the lunch portion of the tradeshow.

After putting on such a San Diegan presentation, MCCSN had secured a booking for the 2011 meeting of the National Optometric Association, who will be hosted by the Manchester Grand Hyatt Hotel. Unity: Journalists of Color plan to hold its 2014 convention in San Diego. San Diego is also being considered by the Global Business Developers & Research Institute as the location for 2012 Global Business Summit.
