Los Cabos Top Choice To Host G20 Summit In 2012

President Calderón Proposes Destination as Host City

The Los Cabos Convention & Visitors Bureau announced that during a recent meeting with top business leaders and local officials in the destination, Mexico's President Felipe Calderón proposed that the G20 Summit take place in Los Cabos in 2012. During the meeting, President Calderón confirmed his support for Los Cabos and urged the business leaders and tourism community to come together in preparedness to bring this important global meeting to Baja California Sur as Mexico has been selected to host the seventh meeting of the G20 heads of government in 2012.

"Hosting the G20 summit in Los Cabos would be a tremendous opportunity for our destination as well as for the country of Mexico," says Gonzalo Franyutti, president of the Los Cabos Convention & Visitors Bureau. "Los Cabos has the exclusive appeal, a contemporary tourism infrastructure and the safety record required to host an event of this global caliber. As a haven for VIPs throughout the world, Los Cabos is truly the "Window to the World" for Mexico."

The G20 was originally established in 1999, in the wake of the 1997 Asian Financial Crisis, to bring together major advanced and emerging economies to stabilize the global financial market. To tackle the economic crisis that spread throughout the world in 2008, the G20 members were called upon to further strengthen international cooperation. Therefore, the G20 Summits have been held in Washington in 2008, in London and Pittsburgh in 2009, in Toronto and Seoul in 2010 and this year, the G20 will take place in Cannes, France on November 3-4.
