Diversity Marketing Expert Recognized By Travel Industry As One Of The "Brightest"


Ty Christian Receives “Top 25” Honor

at HSMAI Adrian Awards Reception & Gala

TheHospitality Sales & Marketing Association International (HSMAI) has selected Ty Christian as one of the “Top 25 Most Extraordinary Minds in Sales and Marketing” for 2010. The eighth annual list recognizes the “best of the best” in the hospitality, travel and tourism industries, and the recipients were honored during a private ceremony preceding the Adrian Awards Gala recently at the New York Marriott Marquis.

The 2010 “Top 25” recipients were judged by a panel of senior industry executives for their recent work based on the following criteria: creativity and innovation; cutting edge sales or marketing campaigns; triumph in challenging situations; and sales efforts that resulted in dramatic gains.  Christian is one of the very few persons of color to receive this distinguished award. He is a marketing and sales executive with over 30 years of diverse marketing experience in the cable television, telephone and advertising industries. He has worked in several marketing management positions with such industry leaders as GTE, J. Walter Thompson, Times Mirror, Westinghouse, Financial News Network and Cablevision Industries. Recognized as a leading authority on the many issues of diversity marketing, he has served on panels and as a keynote speaker at events and conferences around the world. He is often quoted in industry trades and the consumer press.

Christian is managing partner of TRC Consulting Group, LLC, a full service communications firm with offices in Orlando, and Washington, DC. TRC Consulting Group, LLC provides a wide range of services to a number of clients in the travel/tourism, publishing, sports, entertainment and communications industries. Additionally, to the responsibilities of managing the many aspects of TRC Consulting Group, he is currently serving in the role of chief marketing strategist for the Washington, D.C. Martin Luther King National Memorial Foundation Project, Inc. with the goal of placing the first Memorial on the Washington Mall honoring a person of color. His responsibilities include the development, management and implementation of all marketing and public relations efforts to raise awareness and donations for the $120 million project. Under his marketing leadership, the Foundation has raised $109 million toward its $120 million goal and is scheduled for dedication in August of 2011. Christian has been credited with enhancing the Foundation’s awareness through a number of innovative programs, which have over the last 10 years garnered over $85 million in free media to promote the merits of the Foundation. He also managed the creative process and placement of all ads showcasing the value of the Foundation’s efforts in such noted media outlets as the Wall Street Journal, Washington Post, USA Today, Ebony, Essence, Latina Magazine, Oprah, Disney’s Kid Digest, New York Times and many others. Along with several other creative and promotional endeavors, his expertise has assisted in garnering over $10.5 million annually in earned media and two Bronze TELLY’s and an Emmy Nomination for Public Service Announcements produced.

Christian holds a BA degree in Radio/TV/Film from the University of Missouri- Columbia where he has been recognized as a Distinguished Alumnus in 2004. He also performed graduate work at Yale University and is the recipient of many marketing, advertising and sales awards which include, The Top 25 Extraordinary Minds in Sales & Marketing by the Hospitality Sales Marketing Association International in 2010, Two TELLY Awards, The Distinguish Marketing Person of the Year, by PRAME, "Addies" from the American Advertising Federation, Cable Marketing's CTAM Awards, GTE's $100,000 Club, The Disney Channel's Marketing Person of the Year Award, Home Box Office's Promotional and Marketing Award, the International Association of Business Communicator's Bronze Quill, International Television Association's Golden Palm Award, the City of Orlando's Mayor Glenda E. Hood's Diversity Vision Award and consistent winner of the Parenting Publications of America's Excellence Award for Outstanding Publication. He is the Past-President of the Orlando Advertising Federation, which served over 350 advertising executives and professionals, a committee chair for the American Advertising Federation's Fourth District, which included Florida and the Caribbean. He currently serves on the state of Florida’s Tourism Commission, and the University of Missouri’s School of Arts & Science Strategic Board.
