The event showcased some of Orlando’s hidden gems representing the best of the destination’s dining and entertainment districts including fine cuisine, spas, shopping, hotels, golfing, cultural excursions and theme park experiences to the 800-plus guests.

Walt Disney World Resort provided relaxing escapes with South African Wine tastings and the opportunity to meet a Disney Animator, while attendees also enjoyed posing with the minions from the new Despicable Me Minion Mayhem ride at Universal Orlando Resort and got up close and personal with unique animal encounters from SeaWorld Parks & Resorts. Hotelier Sheila Johnson, founder and CEO of Salamander Hotels & Resorts shared news of Orlando’s resort experiences at the Reunion Resort. Guests also had the opportunity to meet representatives from The Villas of Grand Cypress and Wyndham Grand Orlando Resort Bonnet Creek where they learned about exclusive customized stay and play packages available through My Golf Concierge, picked up golf tips, took part in a 3-on-3 executive putting challenge and enjoyed cigars courtesy of Corona Cigar Company.
Chef demonstrations from The Nile Ethiopian Restaurant and Cuba Libre Restaurant & Rum Bar provided samplings of gourmet hors d’oeuvres representing Orlando’s Dining and Entertainment Districts while guests mixed and enjoyed specialty drinks – Orlandotini and SeaWorld Orlando’s Blue Ocean throughout the night. Orlando’s African-American culture and history were displayed from the Wells’ Built Museum, Zora Neale Hurston Festival of the Arts & Humanities, Orange County Regional History Center, The Florida Highway Men and Hannibal Square Heritage Center. Guests were treated to a Fall Fashion Preview from Orlando’s The Mall at Millennia (Bloomingdale’s) and noted Orlando jewelry artist Eric Green featured his fall collection.

“We brought Orlando Revealed to Washington D.C. during Black Caucus to showcase how much more the destination offers than many visitors expect. From amazing attractions and diverse experiences to cultural learning opportunities and luxurious endeavors, there’s so much to discover and experience in Orlando,” said Danielle Courtenay, chief marketing officer for Visit Orlando. “It was also a great opportunity to celebrate the outstanding services to young people provided by the National Cares Mentoring Movement and its outreach throughout the country and support their efforts.”

Visit Orlando presented a donation of $5,000 to National Cares Mentoring Movement and their local Greater Orlando Cares affiliate. Susan Taylor, founder & CEO, National Cares Mentoring Movement, the evening’s featured keynote, accepted the donation on behalf of the organization. National Cares is dedicated to recruiting and connecting mentors with local youth-serving and mentoring organizations to help guide struggling Black children to academic and social success.
