New Orleans Ernest N. Morial Convention Center Holds Ribbon Cutting Ceremony To Debut Great Hall And Pedestrian Plaza Renovation

New Orleans City Officials, Local Representatives and NFL On Hand to Host The Ceremony

The New Orleans Ernest N. Morial Convention Center, along with representatives from the City of New Orleans and NFL, held a ribbon cutting ceremony to debut the Center’s stunning new entrance and The Great Hall renovation.

New Orleans Mayor Mitch Landrieu and Lieutenant Governor of Louisiana Jay Dardenne called it a great day for New Orleans as they cut the ribbon to the redesigned main entrance located at the corner of Julia Street and Convention Center Boulevard. “To be able to have an entrance way like this and an increase in the square footage of this magnificent arena is going to truly let New Orleans remain competitive with the cities we want to compete with. We want New Orleans to be mentioned in the same breath as all the other cities that people think of when they think of conventions,” said Lt. Governor Dardenne.

The ceremony marked the completion of the 24-month, $52 million renovation of the former Hall A and La Louisiane Ballroom. The space has been re-configured into The Great Hall, a 60,300 sq. ft. column-free ballroom, which is now the largest ballroom in New Orleans. The space is named for the Center’s first use as The Great Hall of the 1984 World’s Fair. The renovation also includes a 4,660-sq. ft. “junior” ballroom with a roof-top terrace, named “The Rivergate Room,” and 25,000 sq. ft. of pre-function space.

The NFL Shop of Super Bowl XLVII opened immediately following the ribbon cutting, and is the first official use of the new space.
