City Council Approves 3 Additions To Houston First Board


C.C. Conner, Irma Diaz-Gonzalez, Winslow Jeffries Named New Directors


Three new appointments to the board of directors for the Houston First Corporation have been approved by Houston Mayor Annise Parker and Houston City Council.

Houston First is the umbrella organization that owns the Hilton Americas-Houston hotel and manages the adjacent George R. Brown Convention Center along with a host of other municipal facilities.Newly appointed are Cecil C. Conner Jr., Irma Diaz-Gonzalez and Winslow Albert Jeffries. Conner’s term expires on December 31, 2015, while the Diaz-Gonzalez and Jeffries appointments expire December 31, 2014. Diaz-Gonzalez fills the position of outgoing board member of Joe Ting; the other two appointments represent an increase to the size to board, which now numbers 11.



“C.C., Irma and Winslow bring a wide range of skills to Houston First” said Ric Campo, chairman of the Houston First board. “We’re going to need every one of their talents as we proceed with an ambitious agenda to make Houston one of the great destination cities in the world.” Conner is a veteran arts administrator with more than 30 years of experience. He is managing director emeritus of Houston Ballet, having retired as managing director on February 15, 2012.

Diaz-Gonzalez is president and CEO of Employment & Training Centers, Inc. of Houston, where she has worked since 1986. Previously, she was coordinator of youth programs for HoustonWorks.  Jeffries has spent his entire professional career engaged in audiovisual and theater systems and related fields. As an educator, he has taught broadcasting and related coursework at Houston Community College, Yates High School among a number of secondary education postings.
