Qatar National Convention Centre Gears Up For Opening In December 2011

The Qatar National Convention Centre (QNCC), which stands majestically over Education City, is in its final preparation stages to becoming fully operational. The Centre is scheduled to officially open by December 2011.

To date, the QNCC has employed more than 390 employees from 36 different countries including Australia, Malaysia, South Korea, South Africa, United Kingdom and the Gulf States. “The team has converged under the QNCC Sidra tree with one focus in mind – to make the QNCC an industry trailblazer for conventions and exhibitions and deliver service excellence,” said Adam Mather-Brown, general manager.

“All employees have just undergone two weeks of intensive orientation and training covering various topics including cultural awareness, customer care and team building activities. This underscores QNCC’s emphasis on developing a highly passionate and dedicated team to cater beyond the expectations of clients and guests,” he continued. The QNCC was bustling with activities earlier this month as it welcomed its first soft opening event;, “Teachers of English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL)” which brought together 400 international and regional educators.

QNCC also welcomed 1,200 delegates for the World Innovation Summit for Education 2011 (WISE) on 1 to 3 November and will host The Hague International Model United Nations (THIMUN) conference from 15 to 18 November, Qatar Foundation Second Annual Research Forum (ARF 2011) from 20 to 22 November, and the 20th World Petroleum Congress 2011 from 4 to 8 December.

The QNCC is purpose built to be one of the world’s most sophisticated convention and exhibition centers. It boasts the stunning signature facade representing the branches of the Sidra tree which traditionally provided shelter for scholars and poets to gather and exchange and share knowledge.  This new venue addition to Qatar will enable the State to attract regional and international conferences and compete amongst the best venues around the world.
