Gateway Canyons Opens State-Of-The-Art Palisade Event Center And Mission Bell Amphitheater
Gateway Canyons, one-hour southwest of Grand Junction, Colorado, has opened the highly anticipated Palisade Event Center and the outdoor venue, the Mission Bell Amphitheater. These event facilities are supported by luxury accommodations, fine-dining, an array of outdoor adventure activities and lifelong learning programs.

The vision for Gateway Canyons as a lifelong learning center continues to manifest with the opening of the new state-of-the-art Palisade Event Center and the Mission Bell Amphitheater. The Palisade Event Center, named after the soaring land form that dominates the skyline of this geographic festival of natural beauty is a combination of both interior spaces and exterior covered patios that offers almost 12,000 sq. ft. of interior and exterior gathering room. Just recently completed, this facility features a Grand Hall with a Sunset Atrium for up to 300 people, the Old Sage Boardroom, a 56-seat HD theater, the Storyteller Library, and the Paint Horse art studio. The Entrada Restaurant and Lounge is scheduled to open in May 2010. The "Unaweep Style" design for the location, named after nearby dramatic Unaweep Canyon, recreates the monumentality, ruggedness and color variations with massive exterior walls using plaster and indigenous stone collected from the immediate area. There are also three large ponds with overlooks and a stream feature, but the rest of the landscape is native as evidenced by the decades-old tall cottonwoods.

The Mission Bell Amphitheater is adjacent to the Palisade Event Center. This outdoor stage and seating venue will hold up to three hundred people for plays, lectures, music concerts and special ceremonies. This facility reflects elements of "Unaweep Style" that include the Pueblo Revival Style of the 1920s and Moorish and Roman-influenced architectural motifs. Gateway Canyons was created by the founder of the Discovery Channel, John Hendricks, who envisioned a location that offers fulfillment to the mind and body. As home to the Experius Academy and the backdrop for the Discovery Channel series Curiosity, Gateway Canyons presents visitors with an opportunity to satisfy their own curiosity. "Groups who have attended meetings and retreats here are inspired by the beautiful surroundings," says Marci Kurronen, Gateway Canyons regional director of Sales. "This is truly where the business world meets the natural world."

Visitors to Gateway Canyons have their choice of lodging accommodations at either the Dolores River Inn or the deluxe Kiva Lodge. These 54 upscale units have easy access to a large outdoor swimming pool, spa services, and an in-house Adventure Center that can arrange hiking, biking, horseback riding, ATV rental, kayaking, rock climbing and river rafting. Outdoor gear and equipment are provided and there is a full retail store with a selection of clothing and accessories. Fine dining is available at the Paradox Grille, with casual dining at the Kiva Café or take-along items from the Paradox-To-Go deli and coffee bar or the Outpost General Store.
