Northern California Destination Offers Skiing, Snowshoeing And Mountain Adventures With Holiday Celebrations

Includes an 1849 Gold Rush Tradition, Performances by Redding City and Moscow Ballet Companies, The Oak Ridge Boys Christmas Show, a Pink Martini Holiday Musical and a New Twist on an Old Holiday Classic

This winter is the perfect time for holiday revelry in Redding, the hub city of the renowned Shasta Cascade region. Located in northeastern California, at the base of beautiful, snowcapped mountains, Redding's snow play attractions offer winter activities for the entire family.

Redding is also big on celebrations boasting a full schedule of holiday performances.
Find a historic state park celebrating a gold rush-era holiday tradition and two remarkable venues bringing performance art to life throughout the season: Redding's historic downtown landmark, the Cascade Theatre, was painstakingly restored to the glamour of a bygone era, complete with gold banisters and art deco ceiling murals; and Redding's Civic Auditorium offers a modern venue accommodating 2,000 people at its location on the bank of the Sacramento River.

Winter Snow and Mountain Fun
Mt. Shasta, the second highest volcano in the United States, offers year-round outdoor activities, including climbing, downhill biking, and scenic drives, but it's the Mt. Shasta Ski Park that attracts the most attention during winter.

Lassen Volcanic National Park - Lassen Peak, an active volcano in the Cascade Volcanic Arc, stands an hour's drive east from Redding. Located in the heart of Lassen Volcanic National Park, this beautiful mountain offers a moderate and accessible hike to its 10,457 foot summit. Manzanita Lake offers a ranger-led snowshoe walk Saturdays and Sundays, January 2 through April 3, 2016. The rangers provide snowshoes and teach the basics of snowshoeing, winter survival, and winter ecology. The southwest parking area is also a popular spot to bring the family, the sleds, and the BBQ and find access to sledding hills with panoramic views of Lassen Park's snowcapped mountains.  For more information, download the Manzanita Lake Winter Trails Guide at  http://www.nps.gov/lavo/planyourvisit/upload/ML-Winter-Trail-Guide-web.pdf .
