The Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre (the Centre) has set the benchmark as the first convention centre in the world to receive the inaugural International Congress and Convention Association (ICCA) Best PR Award at the 52nd ICCA Congress 2013 held in Shanghai, China recently. The Centre's win was attributed to its strong story-telling, high visibility coverage and brand consistency through their public relations (PR) and media efforts.

According to Martin Lewis, Chairman of the Editorial Advisory Board of International Meetings Review (IMR), ICCA's business partner and a member of the judging panel, it was the Centre's measurement methodology, combined with consistent creativity which won the day. "Year on year, the Centre has been strong on the creative front but their evaluation processes and measurement of ROI was hard-nosed and scientific, impressing all the judges across the board."

The Centre is one of the most active members when it comes to creative PR efforts and is also a frequent uploader of press releases onto the ICCA website and Twitter account. Year-to-date, the Centre has generated over 500 pieces of coverage through the use of creative angles and writing that delivers consistent messages from its four key areas; marketing, food & beverage, environmental sustainability and Corporate Social Responsibility.

Expressing his delight at the Centre's win, General Manager Datuk Peter Brokenshire dedicated the Award to the Centre's team and support agency whose efforts and strategic approach contributed to this sterling achievement.

"With a field of over 1,000 member organizations from over 90 countries eligible for the award, we were truly honored to have made the list of finalists and even more delighted to have eventually triumphed. We are ecstatic that the hard work, dedication and persistence of our entire team, who are constantly on the lookout for creative PR opportunities, has been recognized and rewarded," concluded Brokenshire.

As a finalist and winner of the Award, the Centre's director of Sales & Marketing, Angeline Lue and Communications manager, Kuzaimah Idris, participated in a dedicated Media & PR session held during the Congress to share informative and valuable insights that could be useful for their industry counterparts.

Launched at the 2012 ICCA Congress in Puerto Rico by ICCA and IMR, the ICCA Best PR Award recognizes exceptional PR performance by ICCA members. The finalists were selected by the editorial representatives of IMR's publishers and ICCA's PR staff who have carefully evaluated the PR coverage of various ICCA members over the course of the year.
