Kuala Lumpar Convention Centre Shares What's On The Table In 2013/14

The Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre (the Centre) made a proud entrance at the China Incentive, Business Travel & Meetings Exhibition (CIBTM) with Culinaria, a brand name for its food & beverage (F&B) offerings to both define and differentiate its culinary services from the competition.

According to Angeline Lue, the Centre's director of Sales & Marketing, Culinaria embodies the Centre's innovative mind-set when it comes to dining to accentuate beyond standard convention centre fare and presentation, and deliver the promise of value, taste and experience. "The new brand name is also a reflection of our award-winning F&B track record which to date includes the 'Dato Lau Foo Sun Excellence in Dining Award' from the Chaîne des Rôtisseurs Malaysia Chapter, a Silver at the 23 rd IKA World Culinary Olympics 2012 and our Executive Chef Richmond Lim's The Stainless Steel Kitchen which was voted the Gourmand World Cookbook Awards 2012's 'Best Book in the World for Food Professionals'."

Launched in July this year (2013), Culinaria reflects Malaysia's unique selling propositions; from her colorful multi-cultural mix to progressive nation realities, and the Centre's tagline of 'Where commerce, culture, colour converge'.

Lue explained that Culinariais the perfect platform to showcase the talents of the Centre's Culinary team, "in particular our chefs' versatility in crafting creative menus that capture the exquisite taste of food enthusiasts." This was evidenced at the recent Chaîne des Rôtisseurs dinner where food and wine connoisseurs were treated to an evening of fine dining and an epicurean adventure by the Centre's executive chef, Richmond Lim and his seven head chefs, who 'wowed' the guests with their culinary flair.

Under Culinaria, the Centre offers a range of exciting dining experiences, from State-of-the-Art Banqueting and quarterly cuisine promotions to enhanced themed menus with flavors from all of Asia such as 'Greater China', 'Incredible India', 'Malaysia Truly Asia', 'Nyonya Heritage', 'Southeast Asia' and 'Amazing Thailand, special dietary menus and more healthy options for its Day Conference Packages (DCPs) and at its public catering outlets, Park View Deck and West Wing Café.

Acknowledging that while Malaysia remains a relatively new destination for China's meeting and event planners, Lue said events such as CIBTM provide an avenue to further increase awareness of the Centre's facility and services, such as "our full Chinese kitchen and culinary expertise and Mandarin speaking staff, to a big potential clientele. For ease of communication, all relevant corporate materials, including our corporate video and business presentation, are available in Mandarin as well."

August saw the Centre host the 2013 International Dragon Awards (IDA 2013) Annual Conference with 5,000 local and international delegates from over 16 countries including China, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Korea and Australia in attendance. First established in 1998, IDA carries the objectives of honoring insurance and financial service professionals. To cater to this large group, the Centre not only had Chinese-speaking ambassadors on-site but also ensured materials such as signage and menus were translated into Mandarin. IDA 2013 is expected to generate an estimated RM55.8 million (RMB104.9 million) in economic impact to the country.

The Centre had previously hosted other China-based events such as Perfect China Co Ltd (Perfect China) which returned for the second year running in 2012 for a convention for 2,200 distributors, and the 9th China Import & Export Commodities Exhibition 2012 held in conjunction with the 9th International Branding Showcase 2012.

To-date, the Centre has hosted over 7,500 events and welcomed over 14.3 million delegates, generating RM4.5 billion (RMB8.5 billion) in economic impact to the country since opening its doors in 2005. Between September and year-end 2013, the Centre has 27 conventions/exhibitions with a total estimated attendance of over 500,000 delegates and guests booked in. Of this, half are repeat events.

The year 2014 is also looking strong for the Centre with some very notable international events on the calendar such as Toastmasters International World Convention 2014, Million Dollar Round Table 2014, Meetings & Events Australia (MEA) Annual National Convention 2014, 20th ASEAN Federation of Cardiology Congress 2014, 25 th International Federation of Surveyors (FIG) Congress 2014 and Offshore Technology Conference Asia 2014, all of which augurs well for Malaysia's tourism industry as the country celebrates Visit Malaysia Year 2014.
