A new China Language, Service and Cultural Immersion adventure is offered July 1-14, 2014. It features 20 hours of classes in Mandarin instruction held in Beijing and in Yunnan Province, as well as time assisting a construction project in a rural Chinese community, teaching children at local schools, a home stay with a Chinese family in a traditional village and trekking the Great Wall of China. Another program featuring student service is ARCC's Cambodia and Vietnam Service - Project Clean Water which combines constructing bio-sand water filters and installing them in rural homes, teaching English at an orphanage in rural Cambodia, sailing a traditional "junk" on Halong Bay, retracing the history of the Khmer Rouge era in Phnom Penh, and discovering the food and culture of Hanoi's old quarter. In South America students focus on helping communities lead healthier lives by participating in the Peru Service - Clean Stove Project. Students on this program collaborate directly with families of traditional Quechua communities. Together, students and villagers build stove platforms, add brick foundations and install stoves and ceramic chimneys to create a healthier smoke-free indoor environment. Machu Picchu, teaching English at a primary school, whitewater rafting and walking in the footsteps of the Incas in the Sacred Valley are some of the additional experiences of the June 28-July 11, 2014 program at $4,195 per student. Helping to implement clean energy (solar) and water catchment systems in rural homes engages students on a July 7-31, 2014 Africa Service program in Kenya and Tanzania. Enjoying a safari in Masai Mara National Park, snorkeling in the waters of Zanzibar and assisting teachers in a primary school are also included in the 25-day program.
